Short answer

During and after pregnancy, an osteopath can offer relief for back and pelvic complaints. The osteopath works gently and in an adapted way, in consultation with you and, where needed, with your doctor or midwife. This helps you move more comfortably, before and after childbirth. In case of warning signs, you always see your doctor or midwife first.

Which pregnancy complaints does the osteopath treat?

During pregnancy, your posture and load change considerably. An osteopath can help with:

  • Lower back pain and pelvic pain from the changing load.
  • Pelvic instability and an unstable feeling in the pelvis.
  • Radiating pain into the buttock or leg.
  • Tension and recovery after childbirth, together with your midwife or physiotherapist.

How does treatment work during pregnancy?

The osteopath works gently and fully adapted to your pregnancy, with comfortable positions and without abrupt techniques. The approach takes place in consultation with you and, where needed, with your doctor or midwife.

When to see your doctor or midwife first?

Contact your doctor or midwife immediately in case of

  • vaginal bleeding or loss of fluid;
  • severe or persistent abdominal pain or contractions;
  • reduced or no fetal movement;
  • high blood pressure, marked swelling or severe headache.

Osteopathy never replaces follow-up by your doctor or midwife.
